The government has removed the facility of personal secretaries for lawmakers and political officials. This also stops provincial and local levels from hiring advisors.

Who still gets secretaries

The rule does not apply to top leaders. The president, vice president, prime minister, speaker, national assembly chair, provincial chiefs, and ministers at federal and provincial level can still keep personal secretaries.

The step is seen as a cost-cutting move and also a push to control unnecessary political appointments. Many had criticized the growing number of advisors and secretaries as a burden on state funds.
