Nepali Congress leader Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has filed a police complaint saying that gold and silver jewellery worth around Rs 64 lakh was looted from his house during the recent GenZ movement.

After Karki’s complaint, police in Lalitpur arrested two people and filed a case against them.

Who are the suspects?

  • Sujan Sewa, 29, from Katari Municipality-7 in Udaypur, currently living in Dhapakhel, Lalitpur.
  • Sanjay Pariyar, 30, from Bardibas Municipality-6 in Mahottari, also living in Dhapakhel.

A case has been registered against them at the Lalitpur District Court for criminal disturbance and robbery. The case was filed based on the police investigation report from the Lalitpur District Police Office.

The court had ordered the release of both accused on a bail of Rs 30,000 each, but they were sent to prison after failing to pay the bail amount, according to SP Chakra Raj Joshi, spokesperson of the district police.

Police said the robbery took place at Karki’s house in Bhaisepati on 24 Bhadra, during the GenZ protest.

What did the robbers take?

In his complaint, Karki stated that the looted items included Rs 5 lakh in cash, diamond jewellery worth Rs 18 lakh, diamond tops worth Rs 12 lakh, four sets of gold ornaments worth Rs 25 lakh, pearl necklaces worth Rs 3 lakh, silver plates and boxes worth Rs 1 lakh, silver bowls and spoons, silver idols of Lord Ganesh and Kuber, as well as copper jugs and glasses, making a total loss of about Rs 64.53 lakh in jewellery and valuables.

He also reported that furniture, clothes, and three vehicles; a Yamaha motorcycle (Ba 91 Pa 3959), a Pulsar bike, and a scooter, worth around Rs 10 lakh were burned and damaged, bringing the total estimated loss to about Rs 74.53 lakh.

Police said they recovered some of the stolen items, including a few kitchen utensils. Both accused reportedly work as masons.

It was also found that Sanjay Pariyar had a previous case of indecent behaviour registered against him at the Bardibas Area Police Office in Mahottari.
