Buddha Air owner Birendra Bahadur Basnet has entered active politics. He and his team have registered a new political party named Gatishil Loktantrik Party at the Election Commission.

According to the Election Commission, the party is registered under number 517. The party’s president is sociologist Dinesh Prasai, with Piyush Prasad Kayastha as general secretary and Birendra Basnet as a member.

The party has introduced a different rule in its structure. According to its constitution, party officials are not allowed to run in elections. However, other members can become election candidates.

The party’s official document, titled “Why Us and Our Commitment,” defines it as a political force focused on reform, good governance, and economic growth. The document states, “Politics is a service, not a means to power.” The party says it will follow democratic values and focus on results and good governance.

Gatishil Loktantrik Party’s main principles are transparency, accountability, and public responsibility. It plans to select leaders based on merit, honesty, and efficiency from the local level to the federal level. It has also set a rule that no one can hold the same position for more than two terms.

Economic priorities: production, transparency, and self-reliance

The party’s economic vision stands on three pillars; production, transparency, and self-reliance.

According to its policy document:

  • A zero-tolerance policy will be applied against corruption, and government spending will be kept efficient.
  • Agriculture, tourism, energy, and information technology will be the main engines of economic transformation.
  • Employment-focused programs will be launched to promote youth entrepreneurship.
  • Local industries will receive tax benefits and investment protection.
  • Public-private partnership models will be prioritized in education, health, transport, and irrigation.

The Gatishil Loktantrik Party describes itself as a democratic, inclusive, and result-oriented reformist force that aims to bring positive change to Nepal’s politics and economy.
