The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that Gaza will need at least 7 billion US dollars to rebuild its shattered health system. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the health sector in Gaza is “devastated” and restoring it will take a long time.

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that Israeli attacks in Gaza had also targeted hospitals. “Right now, there are no fully functioning hospitals in Gaza. Out of 36 hospitals, only 14 are still providing some services,” he said. He added that Gaza is facing a severe shortage of medicines, medical equipment, and healthcare workers. “Rebuilding Gaza’s collapsed health system will cost at least 7 billion dollars,” Ghebreyesus said.

Gaza’s health system was already fragile before the latest fighting. Years of blockade, fuel shortages, and limited medical supplies made hospitals and clinics vulnerable. The conflict since October 2023 caused further heavy damage. UN-linked reports show high numbers of people killed and injured, along with major destruction of water, electricity, and health facilities. This has worsened hunger, increased disease risk, and put the entire population in danger.
