CPN-UML chairperson KP Sharma Oli has warned that any physical attack on the party’s leadership could bring the country to a standstill. He said such actions would have very serious consequences.
Oli made the remarks while addressing party leaders and cadres after the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected officials at the UML General Convention in Kathmandu on Thursday. He asked party members to stay alert and be ready for nationwide movements if the situation demands.
Referring to the Panchayat era, Oli said attacks on political leaders have happened in the past, but stressed that such acts would not be accepted now. He also called on UML cadres across the country to prepare to challenge, and even bring down, the government led by Sushila Karki, which was formed after the Gen Z protests on September 8 and 9.
His statement comes at a time when a probe commission is preparing to question him over the Gen Z movement. Oli is expected to be summoned in his role as the then prime minister, along with Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, regarding human and property losses during the protests.
