Heavy rain and floods have stopped electricity production in 13 hydropower projects across Nepal. According to the Independent Power Producers’ Association of Nepal (IPPAN), these projects were producing a total of 105.4 megawatts of electricity before the disaster.

The Ministry of Energy said that the affected projects include Mai Khola Hydropower (4.5 MW), Mai Khola Cascade (8 MW), and Mai Khola, Jogmai Khola, and Tallo Jogmai Maiweni, which together produced 22 MW of electricity.

In addition, five hydropower projects under construction in Panchthar, Ilam, and Sindhupalchok have also been affected. The ministry reported that four of these projects are likely to face delays in completion.

IPPAN said that the floods caused damage to these five under-construction projects, which have a total capacity of 93 megawatts. The organization warned that the damage could result in financial losses and delay electricity generation for several months.
