Non-banking assets of banks and financial institutions in Nepal have grown dramatically over the past five years. In Asar 2079 (mid-2022), these assets were 10.52 billion NPR. By Asar 2082 (mid-2025), they reached 50.55 billion NPR, a tenfold increase.
Steady Growth Over the Years
In just one year, from Asar 2079 to 2080, non-banking assets rose by 8 billion NPR to 18.68 billion NPR. By Asar 2081, they surged another 95 percent, reaching 35.50 billion NPR. Last fiscal year, the growth continued at 42 percent, pushing total assets above 50.55 billion NPR.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019, total non-banking assets were only 5.716 billion NPR. In five years, they skyrocketed ten times, with a sharp increase after 2023. From mid-July 2081 (35.50 billion NPR), assets rose to 50.55 billion NPR by Asar 2082. Even in one month from Jestha 2082 (45.70 billion NPR)—assets jumped 5 billion NPR.

Bank-Wise Non-Banking Assets
Among commercial banks, Global IME Bank holds the highest non-banking assets at 6.07 billion NPR. Himalayan Bank has 5.66 billion, NIC Asia Bank 4.63 billion, Prime Bank 3.94 billion, Nabil Bank 3.67 billion, and Nepal Investment Mega Bank 3.68 billion. Standard Chartered Bank reports almost zero non-banking assets.
Development banks show smaller numbers. Jyoti Development Bank leads with 103 million NPR, followed by Garima Development Bank at 67.5 million, Mahalaxmi Bikas Bank at 56.9 million, and Sangrila Development Bank at 52.8 million NPR.
Among finance companies, Gorkha Finance has 43.4 million NPR in non-banking assets. Goodwill Finance has 54.6 million, and Nepal Finance holds 17.9 million NPR.
