Employees of Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) have paused their month-long protest. They had been demanding bonuses and the resignation of NEPSE’s CEO and chairman.
The protest began 37 days ago after the Finance Ministry blocked a 5% bonus distribution from annual profits, creating tension within NEPSE. Employees approached the Labor Court, which ordered the management to provide the bonus. NEPSE management disagreed and took the matter to the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court called both sides for a discussion on November 23. Following this, NEPSE staff decided to suspend their protest. The CEO, Chudamani Chapagai, returned to office on Wednesday after being away for a month.
The pause in protests may signal a step toward resolving the ongoing dispute over employee bonuses and management decisions.
