Starting from Shrawan 1, citizens enrolled in Nepal’s health insurance program will be able to receive up to Rs 2 lakh in treatment support for eight serious diseases. This is a major increase from the current limit of Rs 1 lakh.
Minister Paudel made the announcement online
Health and Population Minister Pradeep Paudel announced the decision through social media. He said the government is expanding support to help citizens who are struggling to afford treatment for severe illnesses.
“This change will provide relief to those suffering from critical diseases who cannot manage the medical costs,” he wrote on Facebook.

These 8 diseases are now covered up to Rs 2 lakh
Patients suffering from the following illnesses will now receive up to Rs 2 lakh in treatment aid:
- Cancer
- Heart disease
- Kidney disease
- Head injury
- Spinal injury
- Sickle cell anemia
- Parkinsonism
- Alzheimer’s disease
Insurance access and local treatment options expanding
Previously, the government also made a policy change allowing insured citizens to receive treatment at health centers near their place of residence. The health insurance board is now working to expand services across all healthcare levels to make the system more accessible and efficient for everyone.
