A new era for Nepal’s burgeoning startup scene has begun. The much-anticipated premiere of Shark Tank Nepal Season 1 finally hit the screens on Himalaya TV, marking a significant milestone for the nation’s business community. The show, adapted from the globally acclaimed format, offers a powerful platform for Nepali innovators to secure life-changing investments and mentorship from the country’s top business tycoons. The inaugural season is set to feature 110 entrepreneurs over 20 episodes, all vying for a chance to turn their dreams into reality.
For those unfamiliar with the format, entrepreneurs or “pitchers” present their business ideas to a panel of investors, or “Sharks.” They must convince these seasoned veterans of their concept’s viability, market potential, and scalability in exchange for an investment and a stake (equity) in their company. The premiere episode set a compelling tone, showcasing a diverse range of ideas and the sharp, insightful, and sometimes tough, nature of the Sharks.
The Sharks: Titans of Nepali Industry
The first episode introduced four of the five titans of industry who will be investing their own money and expertise into the country’s next big ventures.
- Saurabh Jyoti (Director, Jyoti Group): A prominent figure from a leading Nepali conglomerate with diversified interests, Jyoti came across as a sharp, data-driven investor with a keen eye for scalability and a passion for youth empowerment.
- Ritu Singh Vaidya (Managing Director, Vaidya’s Organization of Industries & Trading Houses): A powerhouse in the auto and industrial sectors, Vaidya brought a calm, observant demeanor, focusing on brand integrity, product quality, and the founder’s vision.
- Anand Bagaria (Managing Director, Nimbus): A leader in Nepal’s agribusiness landscape, Bagaria showed his expertise in manufacturing and distribution, often questioning the operational and logistical aspects of the businesses.
- Cabinet Shrestha (Managing Director, Agni Group): With deep roots in the automotive and mobility sector, Shrestha appeared to be a visionary Shark, looking for disruptive ideas and founders with unshakeable passion and commitment.
The fifth Shark for the season, Hem Raj Dhakal (Co-founder, IME Group), was not present in the premiere but is expected to bring his immense experience in fintech and remittances to future episodes.

The Standout Pitch: Redefining Furniture in Nepal
While the episode featured four distinct businesses, the most impressive and high-stakes pitch came from Palak and Kushal, the interior designers behind Nepal Furniture.
- Business Concept: An affordable luxury furniture brand aiming to redefine modern living spaces in Nepal by manufacturing world-class, designer furniture locally.
- Target Market: They cater to both individual homeowners and major corporate brands, offering a blend of style and local craftsmanship.
- Traction & The “Ask”: The duo revealed impressive year-to-date revenue of 4.4 crores, projecting to close the year at 6.2 crores. Their bold “ask” was for 1 crore NPR in exchange for a mere 1% equity, valuing their company at a staggering 100 crores.
The Negotiation: A High-Stakes Deal
The Sharks were initially taken aback by the high valuation. However, they were impressed by the founders’ clarity, design philosophy, and strong revenue figures. The negotiation was intense, with the Sharks questioning their production capacity and the balance between local and imported materials.
Recognizing the immense potential, three Sharks—Saurabh Jyoti, Anand Bagaria, and Cabinet Shrestha—teamed up. They countered the initial offer, citing the need for significant operational support to scale up. Their final offer was a massive 3 crores NPR for 30% equity, which included not just capital, but also providing crucial infrastructure like expanded workshop space, warehousing, and logistics support. After a tense deliberation, the entrepreneurs accepted the deal, marking the biggest investment of the night.
Other pitches included:
- Bhola Foods: A corporate meal service that secured a 1 crore deal for 20% equity from all four Sharks, who were impressed by the founder’s vision to expand into ready-to-eat packaged meals.
- Viral Boy: A social media content creator who, despite his personal success, failed to convince the Sharks of a scalable business model and received no investment.
- Electra Skincare: A skincare brand that was turned down by all Sharks due to concerns over its India-based manufacturing, lack of in-house R&D, and unconvincing lab testing.

Local Impact and a Glimpse of the Future
Shark Tank Nepal is more than just a TV show; it’s a cultural catalyst. It arrives at a time when Nepal’s startup ecosystem is vibrant but faces significant funding gaps. The premiere highlighted a recurring theme: entrepreneurs developing solutions for local problems, from providing quality Nepali meals to building a domestic furniture powerhouse. It powerfully signals to the youth that entrepreneurship is a viable and celebrated career path.
Production and Presentation
Hosted by the charismatic Priyanka Rani Joshi, the show’s production quality was a topic of discussion among viewers. The set design was professional and on par with international versions. Social media comments praised the “chill environment between Sharks” and the overall refreshing feel of the show.
A viral comment on Reddit captured the sentiment: “Better than expected actually. All were good… I really liked the chill environment between sharks.”
However, some viewers noted the frequent use of English, questioning if it might alienate a segment of the television audience.

What to Expect Next
The grand premiere has set a high bar. With a total investment of 4.2 crores in the first episode alone, the stakes are clearly enormous. As the season unfolds, viewers can anticipate tougher competition among entrepreneurs and more intense negotiations among the Sharks. Who will emerge as the fan-favorite investor? And will the next game-changing Nepali company be discovered in the Tank? If the first episode is any indication, Shark Tank Nepal is set to be a riveting and transformative journey for the nation.
