In the fiscal year 2081/82, remittance from foreign employment accounted for 93% of Nepal’s annual budget. According to data released by Nepal Rastra Bank on Sunday, the country received NPR 17.23 trillion in remittance during the year.
The government had approved a budget of NPR 18.60 trillion for the same period. This highlights how Nepal’s economy is increasingly dependent on remittance.
In the month of Ashad 2082 alone, NPR 1.89 trillion was received in remittances, according to the central bank’s report.
During FY 2081/82, the number of Nepali workers obtaining first-time labor approval for foreign employment was 505,957, while 333,309 workers renewed their labor permits.
