Nepal recorded a trade deficit of about 1.4 trillion rupees in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, which is 6.3% higher than the same period last year, according to the Customs Department.

Foreign trade volume reached nearly 1.9 trillion rupees during this period, up 18.8% from last year’s 1.59 trillion rupees. This increase is largely driven by a rise in exports.

Last fiscal year, imports made up 91.26% of total trade while exports were only 8.74%. This year, the export share improved to 13.08%, with imports declining to 86.92%.

Though exports are growing, Nepal’s trade imbalance remains significant due to high import levels, which continue to widen the trade deficit.
