The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has reported a big decline in profit for the fiscal year 2081/82. According to the authority, profit dropped by 37.32% compared to the previous year.

Profit figure this year

NEA’s profit now stands at about Rs. 9.07 billion. This is a fall of around Rs. 1.46 billion from last year.

Since facing heavy losses in 2072/73, NEA had been recording profits year after year. This year, however, the profit growth slowed down for the first time in years.

The fall in profit shows that NEA is under financial pressure despite its earlier recovery. The authority has not yet detailed the reasons behind the decline, but rising costs and operational challenges are believed to be key factors.
