Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel has announced a major change in how customs duties will be calculated in Nepal. From now on, customs valuation will be based on the actual transaction value, the real price paid by importers, rather than the reference value previously set by customs authorities.

“This is a step towards transparency and fairness in trade,” said Minister Paudel. The move is expected to be highly beneficial for traders and importers, who have long called for a system that reflects real market prices.

Many in the business community have welcomed this decision, seeing it as a positive shift that will reduce disputes and bring more accuracy to customs processes.
