Nepal’s government fund, created to rebuild public property damaged during the Gen-Z protests, has so far collected only about Rs 6.23 crore. The amount is far less than what’s needed to repair the widespread damage caused during the demonstrations.

Officials had hoped for stronger public and private support, but the donation flow has been slower than expected. The government had appealed to citizens, organizations, and businesses to contribute, aiming to restore damaged buildings, roads, and government offices.

Early estimates suggest the total damage runs into several billions of rupees, but the collection stands at just a fraction of that. Reconstruction plans have slowed down due to limited funds, with some projects yet to begin.

Some citizens have expressed frustration, saying the government should focus more on accountability and long-term reform rather than just rebuilding walls and windows. Others believe helping restore public structures is necessary to bring back normalcy and confidence in the system. The slow pace of donations could become a political talking point as elections approach. Parties may use the fund’s weak performance to question the government’s management and public trust.
