The Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) has said that the recent Gen-Z protests have caused serious damage to the hotel industry. The losses are estimated at about Rs 25 Arba.
According to HAN, protests on Monday and the vandalism and arson that followed on Tuesday damaged at least 25 hotels, resorts, lodges, and restaurants across the country. The most affected areas are Kathmandu and Pokhara. Other cities like Bhairahawa, Butwal, Dhangadhi, Jhapa, Dang, and Bardibas also faced heavy losses.
The damage has also affected people’s jobs. More than 2,000 workers have been directly impacted, and many hotels may not reopen this season.
HAN said that about 60 percent of the damaged hotels are likely to get partial insurance compensation, while others may not receive any support.
