Two major companies listed on the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE); Taragaon Regency Hotel (Hyatt Hotel) and Chandragiri Cable Car have been forced to close indefinitely following the violent Gen-Z protests on Bhadra 23 and 24.
The protests turned destructive, as unruly groups damaged private property, hotels, and key infrastructures. Among the affected were Hyatt Regency Kathmandu and Chandragiri Cable Car, both part of NEPSE’s hotel and tourism sector.
According to reports, protesters vandalized and set fire to parts of Chandragiri Cable Car’s lower station. Due to the damage, services have been completely halted since Bhadra 24. Although repair work is underway, officials say they are unsure when operations will resume. Chandragiri Cable Car is listed on NEPSE under the code CGH.
Similarly, Taragaon Regency Hotel, listed under the code TRH, has also shut down indefinitely.
Mohammad Yusuf Yamin, Director of Human Resources at Hyatt Regency Kathmandu, issued a public notice stating that the hotel could not continue operations due to extensive damage and security concerns.
The notice explained that the hotel will remain closed until repairs and reconstruction are complete. For safety reasons, all hotel employees have been instructed not to report to work until further notice.
The statement read, “Considering the risks and security sensitivities related to repair and reconstruction, the entire hotel, including its business operations, will remain completely closed. Discussions with the trade union are ongoing, and all employees are advised not to enter the hotel premises until new instructions or decisions are made.”
