Egg prices have gone up in the Nepali market, with farmers and consumers both feeling the impact. According to Binod Pokharel, President of the Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers Association, the recent heatwave has significantly reduced egg production, leading to higher demand and increased prices.

Currently, three categories of eggs are available—medium, large, and excel. Farmers are now being paid Rs. 465 per crate for medium eggs, Rs. 495 for large eggs, and Rs. 515 for excel eggs. These rates mark a notable increase compared to previous prices.

“We decided on the price hike during yesterday’s meeting, and it has come into effect starting today,” said Pokharel. As a result, consumers are also seeing higher egg prices in retail markets, reflecting the rise in farmgate rates.
