Stock market drops sharply as trading volume rises

Nepal stock market opened the week with a sharp fall. The Nepse index dropped by 78.83 points from the previous day, reaching 2,503 points.

By 1:08 pm, the index fell further to 2,493 points, which was the lowest level during trading today.

Despite the fall, trading activity increased. On Thursday, the total transaction value was Rs 5.27 billion. Today, it rose to Rs 6.70 billion.

Out of 251 companies traded, only 9 saw their prices go up. The remaining 242 companies lost value. All sector indices declined. The hotel and tourism sector fell the most, by 4.84%, followed by other sectors down 4.79% .

Banking dropped 2.30% , development banks 2.93%, finance 3.67%, and hydropower 3.79%. Investment fell 3.13%, life insurance 2.55%, production and processing 1.94%, microfinance 2.88%, non-life insurance 2.32%, and trading 2.85%.

Nepal Micro Insurance was the biggest gainer, rising 6.01%. Panchakanya Mai Hydropower increased 4.90%, and Crest Micro Life Insurance rose 1.89%.

Who faced the biggest losses?

But some companies saw sharp declines:

  • Bindhyabasini Hydropower lost 8.27%
  • Butwal Power fell 9.27%
  • Nepal Reinsurance dropped 9.15%
  • Radhi Hydropower down 8.50%
  • CEDB Holdings decreased 8.45%

The most actively traded companies today were Nepal Reinsurance, NLG Insurance, Union Hydropower, Himalayan Reinsurance, and CEDB Holdings.
