Prime Minister Sushila Karki has asked the Election Commission to extend the deadline for voter registration. This comes after a large number of people showed interest in registering their names.

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Sushila Karki spoke to Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ramrasad Bhandari over the phone and requested more time. Bhandari told the Prime Minister that the commission is positive about the request and can extend the deadline by five days. Preparations for the extension are already underway. This means people can now register their names until Mangsir 5.

After it became possible to register online using the details from the National ID card, the voter registration system saw a huge rush starting Thursday.

Prime Minister Karki also expressed concern over some internet server issues. Bhandari assured her that the problems are being resolved and the registration process is moving forward smoothly.

Earlier, the Election Commission had set the deadline for new voter registration as Kartik 30.
