The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has suspended two officials from the Itahari Vehicle Testing Office after serious complaints of bribery and misconduct. Office chief mechanical engineer Roshan Kumar Dev and accountant Chandra Bahadur Basnet were immediately removed from their posts.

Why action was taken

Service seekers had filed complaints saying the officials were asking for bribes, delaying work, and making people suffer for simple tasks. Some also accused them of being involved in revenue mismanagement. These reports reached Minister Kulman Ghising, who ordered immediate action.

Investigation begins

A five-member investigation committee has been formed under ministry official Balram Rizyal. The team must submit its report within ten working days. They will question the accused employees, talk to service seekers, study documents, and recommend further action.

Sensitive office under spotlight

The Itahari Vehicle Testing Office handles important tasks like route permits for public vehicles, roadworthiness checks, pollution tests, and service level approvals. Minister Ghising said irregularities in such a sensitive office are deeply worrying, especially when people expect fair service.
