In Madhya Marsyangdi , a 1.6 MW solar power plant is being developed in Chiti Barbot, Besishahar–11, Lamjung, adding solar energy generation to the district already known for multiple hydropower projects. The plant will be built on the land of the 70 MW Middle Marsyangdi Hydropower Project.

According to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the ground-mounted grid-connected solar plant will utilize 18,213 square meters of land owned by the hydropower project. The project is being developed with financial support from the German government through KfW Development Bank. KfW will contribute 80% of the funding, while NEA will invest the remaining 20%.

The contract agreement was signed on Magh 24, 2081, and came into effect on Jestha 13, 2082. The project aims to be completed by Falgun 1, 2082. Of the 2 MW DC power generated, 1.6 MW will be converted to AC and fed into the national grid via the existing Middle Marsyangdi infrastructure.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to expand solar capacity in Nepal. Additional projects are underway in Nawalparasi Gandak (5.8 MW) and Surkhet Jupra (2 MW). A feasibility study is also ongoing in Markhu, Kulekhani.

The German government has provided a total of 8 million euros in grant funding for these four solar projects. An estimated 30% of the total cost, approximately 3 million euros, will be covered by Nepal.

The projects will be constructed by Indian company Progel Green Energy Ltd. under the technical guidance of German consultant GOPA Tec. The contractor will handle design, supply, installation, testing, and construction of related transmission lines. They will also be responsible for five years of operations and maintenance, and a two-year warranty period.
