A big new hydropower project is moving forward in Nepal. It will produce 54 MW of clean energy.

On august 22, during its 65th meeting chaired by prime minister Kp Sharma Oli, the Investment Board Nepal (IBN) approved an investment of rs 8.84 billion for the lower apsuwa hydropower project.

This was not the only decision made in the meeting. The board also discussed the 800 mw west seti hydropower project. A negotiation committee led by the IBN ceo has been formed to talk with the project developer. The committee will review the project agreement, check the financial plan, and finalize details before sending it to the board.

The board also approved two new proposals. These are the panauti special economic zone development and operation project and the kathmandu-hetauda-birgunj podway project. The ceo now has permission to issue survey licenses and collect detailed feasibility reports for both projects.

In another decision, the karnali transmission company pvt ltd, which is promoting the 900 mw upper karnali hydropower project, received approval to carry out feasibility and environmental studies for a new transmission line route.

The meeting was attended by deputy prime minister and finance minister Bishnu Paudel, the minister for physical infrastructure and transport, the vice-chairperson of the national planning commission, the chief secretary, and the governor of Nepal Rastra Bank.
