Life has become a little less expensive for Nepalis compared to last year. New data from Nepal Rastra Bank shows that consumer inflation has come down noticeably.

According to the central bank, inflation has dropped by 4.49 percentage points from last year’s level of 5.60 percent. This means the overall rise in prices has slowed, giving some relief to households that were struggling with higher daily costs.

Lower inflation suggests that prices of basic goods and services are not rising as fast as before. For many families, this can ease pressure on monthly budgets, especially on food, transport, and other essentials.

Economists say this slowdown may be linked to better supply conditions, stable imports, and softer demand in the economy. However, they also warn that a fall in inflation does not always mean prices are cheap, only that they are increasing at a slower pace.

Still, the decline is seen as a positive sign for the economy. It gives policymakers more room to manage interest rates and supports consumer confidence at a time when growth remains fragile.

How long this trend continues will depend on global prices, domestic demand, and government policy in the months ahead.
