Today marks the second day of Tihar, where both Kukur Tihar (Dog Day) and Laxmi Puja fall on the same day. Homes across Nepal are filled with light, color, and devotion as people honor dogs and worship the goddess of wealth, Laxmi.

On this day, dogs are treated with love and respect. They are offered delicious food, garlands, and tika. According to tradition, dogs guard the gates of Yama, the god of death. Worshipping them is believed to bring protection and good fortune.

In the evening, people clean their homes and decorate every corner with lights and diyas. From the courtyard to the main door, a path is made using cow dung, red mud, rice flour, and vermilion powder to welcome goddess Laxmi into the house. The ritual is said to bring wealth and happiness throughout the year.

A festival of light and gratitude

Tihar is not just about rituals it’s about expressing gratitude. It reminds people to appreciate loyalty, kindness, and prosperity in all forms, whether through a pet’s love or the blessings of the goddess.

Stock market remains closed today
