Nepal Calendar Determination Committee has announced the most auspicious time for this year’s Bhai Tika.
According to Committee Chair Prof. Shambhu Prasad Dhakal, the ideal time to apply Tika is 11:39 am on Thursday, Kartik 6 (October 23). Bhai Tika, also known as Kija Puja, is a tradition where brothers and sisters exchange Tika and blessings.
Committee member Prof. Devmani Paudel said that there are no strict rules preventing people from receiving Tika in the afternoon. However, state officials are advised to perform the ritual at the exact auspicious hour.
When Does Tihar Start This Year,2082?
Tihar, also called Yama Panchak, begins on Saturday, Kartik 01. Here’s the schedule of the main events:
- Sunday, Kartik 02: Kag Tihar (Crow Festival) and Dhanwantari Day
- Monday, Kartik 03: Kukur Tihar (Dog Festival) in the morning; Laxmi Puja and Deepawali in the evening
- Wednesday, Kartik 05: Worship of cows, oxen, and the self (Mha Puja), a special Newar tradition
Kartik 5 also marks the beginning of Nepal Sambat 1146, the New Year according to the Nepal Sambat calendar. Bhai Puja, or Kija Puja, the brother-sister ritual in the Newar community, will be celebrated on Thursday, Kartik 6. Sisters apply Tika to their brothers’ foreheads and wish them health and long life.
