Demat account renewal begins this Thursday as Nepal enters the new fiscal year, requiring all investors to update their accounts according to CDSC (Central Depository System and Clearing Limited) regulations.
All Demat accounts must be renewed
Whether you opened your account years ago or just last month, it must be renewed at the start of every new fiscal year. CDSC spokesperson Suresh Nyaupane confirmed that this rule applies to all Demat holders.
As of now, 6,885,517 Demat accounts are registered with CDSC.
Meroshare accounts follow a different renewal rule
While Demat accounts require renewal at the start of each fiscal year, Meroshare accounts operate differently.
According to Nyaupane, investors only need to renew their Meroshare account on the same date they opened it the previous year—not on the first day of the fiscal year.
CDSC records show that there are 5,954,906 Meroshare accounts, and among them, 4,177,410 are currently active.
What investors need to do ?
If you have a Demat account, don’t forget to renew it this week as the new fiscal year kicks off. For Meroshare users, check the date when your account was created and renew it accordingly.
Keeping your accounts updated ensures uninterrupted access to stock trading and related services in the Nepali capital market.
