A weather system formed from Cyclone Montha in the Bay of Bengal has now reached central India as a low-pressure zone, according to Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. This system is affecting Nepal’s weather and will likely continue to do so until Friday evening. After that, the weather is expected to gradually improve.
Rain Across Many Provinces
Right now, light to moderate rainfall is being recorded in several parts of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as in some areas of Lumbini. The department said skies will remain mostly cloudy throughout these regions during the day, while other provinces may see partly cloudy conditions.
Possibility of Heavy Rain and Snow
Moderate rain is expected in many parts of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini. There’s also a chance of heavy rainfall in a few places within Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Lumbini provinces.
Mountainous and Himalayan regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki may see moderate to heavy snowfall, while light snow could fall in some parts of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Record Rainfall in Eastern Nepal
In the past 12 hours, Morang’s Haraincha recorded the heaviest rainfall at 140.6 millimeters. Other high rainfall areas include Barmajhiya in Saptari (105.6 mm), Udaypurgadhi (83.2 mm), Gaighat (74 mm), Murkuchi Bazaar (73.6 mm), Churemai (72.4 mm), and Lahan (71.6 mm).
The department advises the public to stay cautious, especially in areas prone to floods or landslides. Travelers heading to higher regions should be prepared for possible snowfall and cold conditions. The heavy rain and snowfall caused by Cyclone Motha are not only disrupting daily life but could also influence the stock market’s short-term activity. With poor weather affecting travel, communication, and business operations in several provinces, market sentiment may turn cautious for a few days.
Fewer Transactions, Cautious Investors
Rain and floods can slow down investor participation especially in regions like Koshi and Madhesh where trading offices and connectivity are often affected during heavy downpours. Brokers say that lower mobility and unstable internet in certain areas could slightly reduce trading volume on NEPSE this week.
