After nearly two years of uncertainty, the family of Nepali student Bipin Joshi has finally received the heartbreaking news they feared. Israeli officials informed his relatives that Bipin, who was taken hostage by Hamas in 2023, is no longer alive.

According to Nepal’s ambassador to Israel, Dhan Prasad Pandit, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office and the Israeli military contacted Bipin’s mother and sister in the United States and his relative Kishor Joshi in Nepal to share the news.

Bipin Joshi was one of the Nepali nationals abducted by Hamas from Kibbutz Alumim on October 9, 2023. A video showing him alive had surfaced in December that year, offering hope to his family and the Nepali community.

Ambassador Pandit confirmed that the Israeli authorities have officially declared Bipin’s death. However, details about what happened and the condition or location of his body have not yet been disclosed.
