The number of political parties planning to take part in the 21st Falgun elections for the House of Representatives has reached 108.
According to Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, spokesperson for the Election Commission, this count was confirmed by Thursday evening.
The deadline to register parties for the election has now been extended to Sunday. More parties could still join during this period. Currently, 16 parties are in the process of registering with the Election Commission. Even if these parties already have authorization, they can still register for election purposes.
In the previous House of Representatives election on 4th Mangsir 2079, 84 parties participated. This time, the number has increased significantly.
So far, 139 parties have been officially registered with the Election Commission. On Thursday, two new parties were registered: Madhav Prasad Khatiwada’s Citizen Protection Party Nepal and Prakash Khadka’s Nepal Janasewa Party.
On Wednesday, three other parties were registered: Sabin Sigdel’s Progressive Citizen Party, Deepak Kumar Sah’s Sarvodaya Party, and Sarvendra Khanal’s Advanced Nepal Party. Since the Gen Z movement, the total number of newly registered parties has reached 23.
