Dashain is the biggest festival in Nepal, and most offices, schools, and businesses usually remain closed for several days. However, Nepal Rastra Bank has decided that banks and financial institutions will not stay fully closed during this time.
The central bank has announced that all banks will remain open throughout the Dashain holidays, except on Vijaya Dashami. The Bank and Financial Institution Regulation Department issued a notice saying that banking services must continue during the festival.
According to the notice, the decision was taken to support customs clearance of goods. The Ministry of Finance and the Department of Customs requested this step to make trade easier, keep the supply chain running smoothly, and ensure uninterrupted services.
The instruction applies to class “A,” “B,” and “C” banks and financial institutions. They have been told to manage customs-related banking services during the holidays so that the movement of goods does not stop.
