In the first three months of the current fiscal year 2082–83, 317 new small and home-based businesses registered in Jhapa district.

According to Janaki Bhattarai, information officer at the Office of Domestic and Small Industries, 145 of these were industrial firms while 172 were commercial businesses. During the same period, 335 industrial and 332 commercial businesses renewed their registrations.

Business Closures and Changes

The office reported 63 businesses closed 38 industrial and 25 commercial. In addition, 3 businesses relocated, 16 changed ownership, 14 updated their names, and 10 expanded their business objectives. Bhattarai noted that although fewer businesses officially close through the office, many that do not renew registration are effectively inactive.

More Openings Than Closures

Despite some closures, the number of new businesses is growing. Bhattarai also shared that in the first three months of the previous fiscal year 2081–82, the office collected over Rs 54 lakh 39 thousand 200 in revenue from different business activities.
