Bishal Bazar Company, Nepal’s oldest and largest public limited company, has once again made headlines. Known as a landmark shopping center in Kathmandu, the company has now drawn attention for an unusual reason.
The company earned about NRs. 1.8 crore from parking fees alone in the fiscal year 2079/80. This income came simply from vehicles using its parking spaces in the busy market area.
Bishal Bazar holds a market value of around NRs. 19,000 crore. This makes it the number one listed company in Nepal in terms of market capitalization.
The earnings highlight how even basic services, like parking, can bring in significant revenue when a company is located in a high-traffic area. For Bishal Bazar, its central location and constant flow of customers have turned parking into a surprisingly profitable side business.
