Stock market drops again but trading amount rises

The stock market, NEPSE fell by 13.52 points on Wednesday, marking the fourth straight trading day of decline.

The market has been slipping since Sunday. With today’s drop of 13 points, the NEPSE index has now fallen to 2631 points. However, even though the market went down, the trading amount surprisingly increased. On the previous day, transactions totaled Rs 4.48 arba, but today it jumped to Rs 5.23 arba.

A total of 74 companies saw their share prices go up, while 177 went down and 7 stayed unchanged. The finance group performed the best today with a rise of 1.59%. Apart from finance, the hotel and tourism sector increased by 0.52%, and the manufacturing and processing sector rose by 0.24%.

Life insurance companies took the biggest hit, dropping by 1.18%. Banking fell by 0.75%, development banks by 0.57%, hydropower by 0.50%, investment by 0.51%, microfinance by 0.48%, non-life insurance by 0.74%, the “other” category by 0.51%, and trading by 0.32%.

Five companies gained 10% today. These included Sagar Distillery, Mithila Laghubitta, Jhapa Energy, Swastik Laghubitta, and Shrinagar Agritech.

Other top gainers were Om Megashree Pharmaceuticals, which rose by 7.02%, followed by Bungal Hydropower (6.44%), Himstar Urja (6.25%), Bandipur Cable Car (5.77%), and Mabilung Energy (5.02%).

Samlung Power saw the biggest drop of the day with a fall of 2.85%. In terms of trading volume, the most active companies were Bandipur Cable Car, Himalayan Reinsurance, Ngadi Group, Trade Tower, and Sikles Hydropower.
