The Supreme Court has ordered a contempt case against Finance Minister Rameshwar Khanal. This follows a petition filed by Sharad Ojha, the suspended chairman of the Insurance Authority, after the administration refused to register his contempt plea. Justices Abdul Aziz Musalman and Meghraj Pakhral instructed that the case be officially filed.

The government had dismissed Ojha from his chairman post on September 17. Earlier, he had already approached the Supreme Court against his suspension. In the petition against his dismissal, the Supreme Court issued an interim order to halt the termination until October 12.

Ojha went to the authority office with a copy of the court order, but the Finance Ministry barred him from entering on October 18. Considering this a violation of its order, Ojha returned to the Supreme Court. The court has directed the Finance Ministry to enforce the September 9 order and has also written to them to appear for the hearing scheduled on December 1.

Earlier, on July 15, the government had formed a committee led by former justice Krishna Giri to investigate the Insurance Authority chairman. The committee had suspended Ojha automatically. He had become chairman in February 2025, surpassing three other selected candidates.
