The Kaski District Administration Office has requested tourists not to travel to high mountain areas, warning of possible snowfall and heavy rain in the coming days.

Officials said that weather forecasts show medium to heavy rainfall across the country, including Gandaki Province, until Ashoj 20. This could cause snowfall in popular trekking areas such as the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), Mardi Himal Base Camp, Machhapuchhre Model Trek, Kapuche, and Khumai routes.

Assistant Chief District Officer Shiv Prasad Lamsal said the office has issued a public notice to alert all trekkers. “There is a high chance of snowfall in the high Himalayan areas. For your own safety, we strongly advise not to start any treks for now,” he said.

Tourism hit during festive season

In past years, trekking routes in Kaski would be crowded with visitors during the Dashain holidays. However, due to the forecast of heavy rain and snowfall, local hotels and restaurants in trekking regions are expected to see fewer tourists this season.

Safety alert for all residents and travelers

The administration also warned about possible natural disasters such as floods, landslides, and snowstorms due to the ongoing rainfall. Locals and travelers have been asked to stay cautious and contact nearby police or local authorities immediately if any emergency occurs.

Impact on the stock market

The travel and tourism warning is likely to affect tourism-related stocks listed on NEPSE. With fewer trekkers expected during the Dashain holidays, companies involved in hotels, travel, airlines, and trekking services may see a temporary dip in performance. Investors might stay cautious in the short term, especially in tourism and hospitality sectors, until weather conditions improve and travel demand picks up again.
