The commission formed to investigate the Gen Z movement violence is preparing to question some of Nepal’s top political and administrative figures.

The list includes former prime minister KP Sharma Oli, former home minister Ramesh Lekhak, former home secretary Gokarna Mani Dawadi, former intelligence chief Hutraj Thapa, and former Kathmandu CDO Chhabilal Rizal.

The commission, led by Gauri Bahadur Karki, said many people lost their lives and huge damage was caused during the protests. Because of this, they believe it is necessary to call those who were in power at the time for statements.

Travel restrictions in place

A notice has been sent to restrict these five leaders from leaving the country. They have also been told not to travel outside Kathmandu Valley without commission approval. This shows the commission is getting ready to begin formal questioning.

More support needed

Commission member Bijyan Raj Sharma said more experts and staff have been requested from the Home Ministry to make the investigation stronger and fairer. However, because of the long Dashain holiday, the questioning process will only move forward after the festival.

Amid growing criticism, KP Oli said they have no plans to leave the country. He also voiced dissatisfaction over how the government and commission are handling the matter.
