Nepal’s stock market regulator, the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON), has stopped the system of calculating the NEPSE index and share prices based on the average of the last 15 minutes of trading. The decision was made during a board meeting held on Saturday.
This rule had been in place since Chaitra 7, 2081. With the new decision, the method of using the last 15 minutes average for index and price calculation has been removed for now.
SEBON said it found some weaknesses in how the main index and sub-indexes were being calculated. To address this, the board has decided to carry out a study and suggest improvements to make the system more effective.
